Discovering Indoor Shrimp Fishing in Taipei
A woman sitting in a plastic chair yanked her line up from the shallows of the murky pool of water and squealed at the sight of a thrashing shrimp. What else would it be? We were at an indoor Shrimp Fishing venue in Taipei. My friend and his bride threw a pre-wedding party the night before they said their vows. Each wearing a casual t-shirt with a giant shrimp printed on the front, they welcomed friends from Hong Kong and Taiwan to a small dive joint in Taipei where we could fish indoors, talk, drink bubble tea, and listen to pop tunes played by the DJ.
Personally, I caught three shrimp. Somehow, the fact that the pool is stocked with shrimp doesn't diminish the mild jolt of excitement from feeling that first tug on the line. After each catch, we would put the captured shrimp in a netted bag in the water to save them for later. At the end of the evening, we consolidated the fresh catches and sent them over to the grill to be salted and cooked. It was a lot of fun!
Here's the venue we went to, but there are many others across the city:
